Where is my data stored?
All your data is stored locally on your device. Nothing is sent to any server. If you delete the app, your data is permanently removed.
Can I transfer my data to a new phone?
Currently, data does not sync between devices. If you switch phones, you'll need to re-add your friends. We're exploring backup options for the future.
Why does the app ask for Contacts access?
If you choose to import friends from your contacts, the app needs permission to read names and birthdays. This is entirely optional — you can always add friends manually. Contact data is only used locally and is never sent anywhere.
How do I delete a friend?
On the home screen, swipe left on a friend to reveal the delete option.
Does the app work offline?
Yes. Howdy Mate! works entirely offline. All data is stored on your device and no internet connection is required to use the app.
Subscription FAQs
How do I upgrade to Pro?
Go to Settings > Subscription > Upgrade to Pro, or tap the upgrade prompt when you reach the free limit of 5 friends.
What's included in the free plan?
Up to 5 friends with all check-in features including texts, calls, video, in-person, and more. Upgrade to Pro for unlimited friends.
Is there a free trial?
Yes! The annual plan includes a 7-day free trial. You won't be charged until the trial ends. To avoid being charged, turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the trial ends via iPhone Settings > [Your Name] > Subscriptions > Howdy Mate!.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open Settings on your iPhone > tap your name > Subscriptions > Howdy Mate!. Apple manages all billing and cancellations.
How do I restore my purchases?
Go to Settings > Subscription > Restore Purchases. This is useful if you reinstall the app or switch to a new device.
I was charged but still see the free limit
Try tapping "Restore Purchases" in Settings > Subscription. If the issue persists, please contact us at [email protected].
Delete Your Data
Howdy Mate! stores all data locally on your device — we never have access to it. To delete your data:
- Reset in-app: Go to Settings > Data > Reset All Data. This removes all friends, check-ins, and settings but does not cancel your subscription.
- Delete a single friend: On the home screen, swipe left on a friend and tap delete. This removes the friend and all their check-in history.
- Delete all data: Uninstall the App from your device. This permanently removes all stored information including friends, check-ins, and settings.
Since no data is stored on our servers, there is nothing additional to request deletion of. To cancel a subscription, visit your iPhone Settings > [Your Name] > Subscriptions.
